GOLD COAST HINTERLAND
It's just an easy 30 minute drive
from Broadbeach to "The Green Behind The Gold", the vast mountainous,
forested backdrop known as the Gold Coast Hinterland.
This magnificent contrast to the golden beaches
is a popular day trip for Broadbeach holiday makers, providing a
change from the surf, sun and sand.
The hinterland is an area of country crafts,
charming period cottages, art galleries and tea houses. The
colourful country
markets, historical buildings and pubs, working farms and fruit plantations
attract visitors throughout the year. Hang-gliding, abseiling adventures,
wilderness treks, 4WD tours and bushwalking are all popular activities
throughout the area.
Scenic drives wind through
the rugged and mountainous countryside leading to scenic lookouts,
lodges, quaint towns and villages. Highlights of a hinterland tour are
the rainforest oasis of Tamborine Mountain, Numinbah
Valley, Hinze dam, the pioneering history of Beaudesert, the Springbrook
plateau and Purlingbrook Falls.
The National Parks
and rainforests are home to native wildlife that is unique to Australia
and provide a unique opportunity to see and hear native animals and
birds in their natural environment. There are 160kms of walking tracks providing access to
cascading waterfalls and spectacular views. The parks provide picnic areas and conserve remnants of the area's
original subtropical and eucalypt forests.
A great hinterland day trip is a circuit starting at
Broadbeach, then south to Murwillumbah and the Tweed Valley in New South Wales, then swinging north through Crystal Creek, Chillingham, Numinbah, Natural Bridge, Nerang, Mudgeeraba and back to the coast.
Broadbeach ... the ultimate Gold Coast
holiday experience
